DFGFI: A Message from Sigourney Weaver

Frisch aus dem The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International Newsletter:

Ever since I played Dian Fossey in Gorillas in the Mist, I have done whatever I could to save the critically endangered mountain gorillas. Thank you for joining me in this effort.

Because you have been such a great friend to mountain gorillas, I want you to know about a tremendous opportunity. Nick and Cheri Faust, our longtime friends and committed supporters, have agreed to match any new or increased DFGFI Membership support this year! With your help, DFGFI could receive $150,000 to sustain our field programs if we meet their $50,000 challenge match. This is twice as much life-saving support to benefit the gorillas!

Despite the danger, DFGFI’s trackers and anti-poaching patrols work EVERY DAY to protect gorillas, just as they did when Dian Fossey was alive. Forty years of experience at Karisoke have proven these vital patrols are the only sure means to safeguard the gorillas from deadly snares, poachers, and kidnappers. Dian would be proud to see the expansion of her work beyond Karisoke, too. Since 2002, our dedicated scientists and brave African staff have made great strides in the creation of more protected areas for gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Your annual Membership support is critical to continue Dian Fossey’s work, more important today than ever before. Despite our success, poaching and kidnapping remain a threat and have orphaned at least eleven gorillas in recent years. Your membership is vital if we are to continue the work to which Dr. Fossey gave her life.

Together, we can continue Dian’s pioneering work to protect and save the gorillas for future generations.

Thank you for your caring and generosity.
